What is One Summer Chicago?

One Summer Chicago is a City of Chicago program designed to provide valuable summer work opportunities to youth. This initiative is managed by Chicago Urban Ignite in partnership with various local organizations, aiming to foster personal growth, skill-building, and career exploration.

Our goal is to create transformative opportunities that help young people explore their passions, connect with industry leaders, and develop the skills needed for long-term success in the workforce.

Through our One Summer Chicago initiative, we plan to provide a meaningful work experiences to young people aged 14 to 24, helping them gain skills, explore career paths, and build brighter futures.

 

Youth: Sign Up for One Summer Chicago

Are you ready to take the next step in your career journey? The One Summer Chicago program offers youth ages 14-24 the chance to gain real-world work experience, connect with mentors, and develop skills that will help you succeed in the workforce.

  • Eligibility: Youth aged 14-24 can apply.

  • Work Hours: Youth can work up to 20 hours per week

  • Mentorship & Learning: Interns will receive valuable mentorship and hands-on experience, helping them develop both professional skills and life skills.

Youth Sign-Up Requirements

Before signing up for One Summer Chicago, please ensure you have the following documents ready:

  1. Valid ID: A state-issued ID or school ID.

  2. Social Security Number (SSN): Required for employment and payroll processing.

  3. Bank Account Information: To set up direct deposit for your wages. Make sure you have an active bank account in your name for this purpose.

These documents are necessary to ensure that you are eligible for participation in the program and that we can process your payments correctly.

How Can Your Business Get Involved?

For Employers: Become a Host Partner

As an employment partner, you’ll have the chance to engage with talented young individuals and help shape the future of Chicago’s workforce. By hosting an intern through One Summer Chicago, you contribute to the professional and personal growth of youth, while also meeting your business’s staffing needs.

  • Subsidized Wages: Youth aged 16-24 will be paid $16.60 per hour for up to 20 hours per week. Youth aged 14-15 will receive a weekly stipend of $80.00.

  • Flexible Roles: You’ll have the flexibility to define the roles and responsibilities of your interns and make adjustments as needed.

  • Mentorship & Skill Development: You’ll have the opportunity to mentor and guide youth, helping them build essential skills and gain hands-on experience in their career interests.

  • Future Talent: At the end of the program, you are encouraged to consider hiring interns who demonstrate exceptional performance.

  • Dates: June 23, 2025 – August 1, 2025
